Vestibular contributions to spatial cognition and self-action representation
— Supervisor: Prof.ssa Raffaella Ricci
My PhD project aims to clarify the neurofunctional links between vestibular system and spatial cognition. I will specifically focus on spatial attention and self-action perception, two specific cognitive functions that may underlie spatial memory deficits usually described in patients with vestibular diseases. I intend to fulfill these purposes testing vestibular patients and healthy volunteers by means of both behavioral procedures and neurophysiological techniques, such as brain stimulation (GVS, tDCS) or recording the brain activity (EEG, MRI, fMRI).
The outcome will provide new knowledge on putative effects of vestibular function on spatial cognition, enabling to set optimal vestibular-targeted therapy for patients.
