Research topics

Sara Palermo holds an MSc in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in Experimental Neuroscience. She is an Associate Professor of Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the Department of Psychology, University of Turin (UNITO). She is an expert in psychobiology, psychophysiology, and clinical neuropsychology, with specialization in advanced neuropsychological assessment, multidimensional geriatric evaluation, and early detection of basic neurological symptoms.

She is a certified Brain Health Ambassador by the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) and holds certified competencies in digital psychology, including both assessment and rehabilitation.

She is a research member of the Center for the Study of Movement Disorders (Neurology) and the Placebo Responses Mapping Group (Physiology) at the Department of Neuroscience, and a member of the Neuroscience Institute of Turin.

She has been collaborating with the Polytechnic University of Turin for over four years as part of the Intraprendenti Challenge, and she has served as a consultant for the Contamination Lab (CLab).

She also acts as a scientific consultant at the Diagnostic and Technology Department – Neuroradiology Unit of the IRCCS Carlo Besta Neurological Institute in Milan.

She is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association (APA: Divisions of Neuropsychology and Military Psychology), the Italian Society of Neuropsychology (SINP), the Italian Association of Psychogeriatrics (AIP), and the International Society for Interdisciplinary Placebo Studies (SIPS), and the European Academy of Neurology (EAN).

She has been a member of the Italian Society of Neurology for Dementia (SINdem), European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Aging (EIP on AHA) (Action Group A3 – Functional Decline and Frailty) and previously took part in the COST Action TD1005 “Pain Assessment in Patients with Impaired Cognition, especially Dementia.”

Currently, she is Scientific Director of the Istituto Nazionale di Filantropia – Filantropolis, Assistant Specialty Chief Editor for Frontiers in Psychology – Neuropsychology, and Associate Editor for Brain Sciences (Neuropsychology section).
